Job Summary

As a member of the Corporate Communications team, the Communications Specialist is responsible to provide communications services, which include: administering various communication programs and assets; researching/writing/editing/producing material for corporate communications products in various formats; production of video, online and print materials; drafting communications plans and implementing strategies for corporate initiatives/programs/projects; managing content for the corporate website to maximize impact and usage, and providing communications support for various corporate activities and events.
Working closely with business partners, the Communications Specialist will be expected to conduct research and analysis, develop key messages, work with suppliers and execute communications material for a wide variety of media, including email presentations, infographics, web, digital screens, videos, social media and digital and print newsletters and other publications.

Job Description

In this role you will:
  • Provides communications advisory services and support to various business partners, including the development and execution of communications strategies and plans; project management and delivery of communications activities and initiatives; and preparation and coordination of various communications products and publications
  • Performs research for the development of publications, presentations and other communications products
  • Develops compelling content for online platforms to various target audiences
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with business partners to determine appropriate approaches for the development of effective content, writing-style, tone, timing, target segmentation, and products/channels to best achieve communications objectives
  • Identifies opportunities to collaborate with cross-functional communications teams as required to ensure effective service delivery
  • Provides analysis and recommendations on the impacts of proposed approaches on other functions, audiences and other planned communications activities (internal and external)
  • Identifies opportunities and provides recommendations for enhancing and improving the use of external communications channels and products
  • Conducts research and analyses on industry trends, emergent communications technologies and best practices; and provides management with recommendations on the implementation of new approaches/channels to best achieve communications objectives
  • Works closely with external suppliers/vendors, including graphic designers, printers, video production companies, writers, and event management companies
  • Provides advice and direction on appropriate use of branding standards and responding to client, supplier requests; developing materials that observe standards and providing support for new application development
  • Manages content of the corporate website, including identifying opportunities to maximize use, developing and posting appropriate content and monitoring posting and usage
  • Coordinates the development and delivery of corporate advertising; and other promotional initiatives
  • Provides communications support for Company special events, seminars, meetings, AGM and conferences
  • Manages corporate digital assets (photo and video) and Multimedia bank, supporting client requests and reinforcing appropriate use
  • Supports programs by developing materials, and conducting focus group testing of corporate materials and other external communications tools

You know:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Communications or related field
  • Experience writing and editing a variety of corporate material such as articles, speeches, reports, biographies, presentations, website and social media content
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic communications plans
  • Experience developing and managing web site content, supporting digital strategies and monitoring, analyzing and providing recommendations using web-based analytics
  • Experience in project management and publication production
  • Experience in all stages of publication production and in working with various suppliers including graphic designers and print specialists
  • Experience in graphic design, digital photography, photo manipulation or videography would be considered an asset
  • Experience in event management would be a considered an asset
  • Knowledge of communications principles, strategy development and project management
  • Knowledge of industry trends in communications with a focus on digital platforms, techniques and best practices
  • Knowledge of NAV CANADA mandate and role within the aviation industry
  • Knowledge of NAV CANADA business priorities and goals


Strong presentation, writing and editing skills

  • Strong computer skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Proficient with Adobe Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Proficient with Social Media applications for Communications
  • Ability to effectively work in a team
  • Ability to quickly grasp and assimilate complex corporate and technical material and communicate effectively to a general audience
  • Ability to understand, absorb and convey complex information into relevant and compelling content for different internal audiences
  • Ability to produce high quality communications products/messaging under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize conflicting requests, manage projects simultaneously and negotiate tactfully and effectively with clients


  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, or another degree with equivalent work experience
  • The successful candidate must meet the security requirement of the position and be legally able to work in Canada.
