Account Manager – Public Relations – Toronto

Account Managers are driven with a winning attitude and sound knowledge of public relations principles and
techniques. They work with the company’s senior management team to implement and execute PR/marketing
communications strategies to meet client objectives. They proactively develop and pitch story ideas to media
contacts across Canada, write, guide and/or edit media materials as well as oversee the execution of various client
programs and events.
The firm will rely on the Account Manager to recommend and build the overall strategy for accounts, facilitating
the implementation and execution of projects ensuring consistency with company direction, commitments and
goals. S/he will provide client-specific PR plans, drive proactive media and influencer engagement, manage
budgets and oversee all events, programs and campaigns to match client resources and meet key objectives. They
will maintain and grow established accounts and foster new client relationships where possible. S/he will oversee
larger projects and media tactics/activations, managing small teams on multiple client accounts. As a manager,
Account Managers will have direct reports including Account Specialists and Account Coordinators to ensure
unwavering success in each and every assignment.
Account Managers are passionate self-starters who are confident working with traditional and non-traditional
media and who are not afraid to roll up his/her sleeves and do whatever it takes to achieve results. They have an
effortless can-do positive attitude working with and coaching/mentoring teams while keeping Account Directors
up-to-date on all client initiatives as well as account team output.
Through the life of the account/project, Account Managers will energize, influence and deliver outstanding results
through exceptional teamwork. S/he will establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, peers
other stakeholders, and media representatives and use these relationships to promote rock-it and assist in the
development of new business opportunities.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Creative Responsibilities:

  • Lead the client relationship managing day-to-day account activity and providing strategic client counseling
    on an assigned portfolio of clients leading in the development, implementation, project management and
    successful execution of account needs
  • Act as the client primary contact on all communications activities, paying careful attention to resources,
    budgets, deadlines and client history/records
  • Working with client, sets and established media messaging and media material direction including
    writing/editing where required
  • Drives outreach strategy and direction, focusing on high-level and proactive media pitching including
    significant multi-page features, positive editorial/business press and effective broadcast segments
  • Develop and maintain media plans, providing high-quality professional counsel and service to acceptable
    standards of the agency
  • Initiates social media strategy oversight
  • Provides strategic analysis and evaluation identifying highlight successes and key learnings of program
  • Generates unique, inventive and creative event and programming direction and involved in team
    execution where required
  • Review, input and approve media/event lists as required
  • Research and evaluate various program/partnership/sponsorship opportunities for client consideration
    Contribute to media/event/annual wrap reports, obtaining final sign off from Account Directors
  • Own and manage client and program budgets including tracking of expenses/invoicing sign off
  • Foster substantial relationships with clients, key media and community influencers, strengthening rapport
    between the company and the public
  • Provide new Business Development support as required
  • Expected to meet set goals and clear priorities; delivers on short and long-term commitments; makes
    timely, high quality decisions; adds value with superior expertise
    People Responsibilities:
  • Delegate incoming media requests (reactive) to Account Specialists/Account Coordinators as appropriate
  • Responsible for team time tracking management, managing direct reports to ensure work is properly
    allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner – consistently inspiring, motivating and
    developing team members
  • Manages crisis and disruptions during project delivery, working with account teams to resolve situations
  • Four to seven years of agency or corporate-setting and/or related account management experience
  • Background in Consumer/Lifestyle/Fashion/Entertainment a definite asset
  • Creative and strategic with demonstrated success in client account management and media relations
  • Established relationships with key local and national media contacts
  • Proven track record securing positive media coverage for clients in Canada
  • An advanced aptitude working with senior staff to develop and execute communications plans based on
    client goals
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects of various scope while working in a team environment
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and ability to
    develop top-quality press/client materials
  • Ability to work extended hours include early morning media appointments and evening events
  • Ability to think outside-the-box and provide unique story angles that will assist in raising the
    client/agency’s profile with key audiences and communities
  • Excellent project management and event management/planning expertise
  • Proficient time management skills with a demonstrated accountability for workloads while consistently
    meeting internal/external deadlines
  • Influential and strong negotiation skills, with both internal and external contacts
  • Superior problem-solving and decision-making skills with a constant willingness to learn and grow
  • Proactive, positive and productive communication with your fellow employees
  • Complies with company standards in all social media activity
